Anthropic has agreed to a six-year, $35 billion cloud computing agreement with Lambda, a San Jose-based provider backed by Nvidia. The arrangement gives Anthropic access to GPU capacity at a Texas data center being built by bitcoin miner and infrastructure company Hut 8.

Nvidia holds the lease on the Hut 8 facility in Nueces County, Texas. Lambda will pay Nvidia an undisclosed amount to secure access for Anthropic. The deal adds to a rapid series of infrastructure commitments. Anthropic also recently signed a separate six-year, $45 billion agreement with London-based Nscale for capacity at a West Virginia site. Combined with earlier arrangements, Anthropic has now committed at least $135 billion in computing deals this year alone.

What's new

  • Deal value: $35 billion over six years
  • Counterparty: Lambda (San Jose, California), an Nvidia-backed AI cloud provider
  • Infrastructure path: Hut 8 builds the Texas data center. Nvidia leases it. Lambda sub-leases capacity. Anthropic consumes compute.
  • Parallel deal: $45 billion, six-year agreement with Nscale (London) for a West Virginia facility
  • Year-to-date total: At least $135 billion in compute commitments

Why it matters

The layered structure shows how frontier model developers are stitching together capacity from a chain of specialists rather than building their own data centers. Nvidia's equity stakes in both Anthropic and Lambda give it a financial interest on multiple sides of the transaction. The scale of commitments signals that the compute arms race between Anthropic and OpenAI is now measured in tens of billions per deal, with direct ripple effects on chip supply chains and consumer device pricing. Apple has already raised prices for certain Macs and iPads due to memory and chip costs and is expected to increase prices for the newest iPhones.

Our take

The $135 billion year-to-date figure makes clear that compute procurement has become the single largest capital allocation decision for frontier labs. The multi-party lease structure reduces Anthropic's direct real-estate risk but adds counterparty dependency — any delay in Hut 8's Texas build-out or Nvidia's lease terms propagates downstream.
